Sonic R is a singleplayer and multiplayer third-person racing game developed by Traveller's Tales and Sonic Team and published by Sega.
Sonic R originally released for the Sega Saturn in November 1997. A Windows port developed by Sega PC was released on November 11, 1998. Compared to the Saturn version, the PC version features a higher frame rate and draw distance, randomized weather effects in levels, and a time of day feature.
The PC version of Sonic R presents some compatibility issues when running on Windows XP and later, and a new release of the game was issued in 2004 to resolve the issues.
